Ganges Harbor, Salt Spring Island, Vancouver Island, B.C. Under the Canadian flag is a Coast
Guard station. It is $18 CDN to stay overnight at this wharf. There's no water
and no power, but you can easily get ashore and walk to the town. Sea planes land about 200 feet behind this
float and water taxi to another float. Beyond that in the marina was moored a 100 foot luxury yacht with its own helicopter pad
and a few other yachts that were 70 to 80 feet long. One eighty footer was being handled by just a husband and wife crew.
The town was quaint, with lots of clothing stores, somewhat like Carmel, CA. I asked at
a computer store to use a phone line to get internet access on my trusty Mac. The owner said he didn't have an available line
in the store, but I could come to his house at dinnertime and use his home phone!!!

At Ganges Harbor it's an easy walk to the town for 'Saturday Market'. This guy on the right was straight from
the 'sixties' as was all the stuff for sale in the booths nearby ... scented soaps, tye dye shirts and dresses,
'special' dried flowers and hemp clothing. A sixty-year old man with sandals and shoulder length hair (gray) was
playing a guitar on the lawn behind the booth. This wasn't a typical 'farmer's market', only two vendors
sold some locally grown vegetables. Anyhow, what was HE doing? I'm
not sure what he was doing, but everyone seemed to feel good. He does this for no charge, but asks for
a "donation" afterwards. I didn't do this 'cuz I felt that I was feelin' good already. We took a short walk around
the bay, where Ellen and I bought a fresh Chinook salmon for $4.99 a pound CDN (~ $3.50 US). That was GOOD.

The boat, tied stern-to at Princess Cove, Wallace Island. This anchorage may look calm and serene,
but to get the boat in this position, I assure you, is no mean feat. It's just as I described in the narrative. We were here for
two days; I could have stayed for a couple of weeks.
