That blue masking tape on the deck near the rail means I was attempting to do some varnishing.

Just before it rained, I had recited my varnishing mantra, had my favorite varnishing brush and my

favorite varnish at the ready. It seems impossible to get any varnishing done around here.

One overcast day at the Flounder Bay Boat Company I casually complained about the damp, overcast bad-varnishing weather.

I was told, "Sure, there's not many good varnishing days, but that's good. The varnish you are able to do, holds

up for a long time here because there's not enough sun to deteriorate the varnish." Huh?

Covered boat sheds in Maple Bay. One warm sunny day - this doesn't show it - we were at anchor here and actually

considered wintering-over in this bay's marina. However, the nearest town is 5 miles away,

the marina restaurant, the pub and marina shops close in the winter. There's nothing else nearby but a tree lined two lane road.

This summer rainy period changed our minds for good. We'll probably stay the winter in Sidney, B.C.

This Canadian vessel was expertly handled by a husband and wife, alone. One day, when the weather worsened,

the wife lifted the fenders and cast off lines. Then, the husband turned the boat around in front of us and, and they motored out.
