This is well-protected Echo Bay at Sucia Island. Except for a woodpecker working a

dead tree somewhere back there in the forest, this cove was perfectly quiet.

This carved whale is mounted on the cabin wall. The true colors are distorted in this photo.

It's not Moby Dick. It is most likely a "furrow whale" (or Humpback) so named

because of the deep pleated belly, chest and chin which should be white.

The "furrows" allowed the belly to expand to accommodate food. This thing likes to eat! Fortunately

Humpbacks eat plankton and small crustaceans that they filter from the ocean through the baleen.

Unfortunately, they've been known to bump into small boats at sea.

Measuring around fifty feet long, there may be a few cruising around NW waters.

Aquarius eyes the first sail of "Sam." (See Narrative)
