Sechelt Rapids in Skookumchuck Narrows is near a little town called Egmont where we were invited to go for a fast-boat ride in the rapids.

If the rough water and currents weren't enough of a hazard to a boater, whirlpools here can lift tumbling underwater

logs that unexpectedly burst to the surface. Recently a fishing

boat got caught here and was turned under and sunk. There are many such narrows and rapids in the Northwest.

We were about to transit our second rapids on our approach to Princess Louisa Inlet.

Queen's Reach and Prince of Wales Reach on the way to Princess Louisa Inlet. I met a sailboater who saw a Furrowed Whale near here.

Also known as a Humpback, this 50 foot whale headed toward their boat, dove under, came up on the other side, rolled on it's side and disappeared.

Tom Hamilton of Hamilton Standard Propeller company invented the constant speed airplane propeller ... and became very wealthy. In the

1940's he built this 'Malibu Club' at the edge of Malibu Rapids to entertain elite friends.

The lodge was abandoned in one day in the 1950's due to a polio scare and was left with all supplies, fixtures and furnishings intact.

For $300,000 in 1953 Young Life, a Christian outreach organization for high school age youth, purchased the site including

the 9 hole golf course, boat docks, generators, and all facilities. With a staff of 100 volunteers, they operate it today inviting teenagers

up for a one week stay for $350 including transportation, meals and lodging.
