Stuart Island in the San Juan Islands, USA is home to maybe twenty families.

There are no hospital or first aid services. If you suffer an emergency, they say you

should call on the VHF and, after a wait, meet the Coast Guard at the water's edge so you can direct them to the injured.

There's a defibrillator in the schoonhouse, but no one knows how to use it.

The rippled water reveals the strong currents near the lighthouse point.

 

It's a five mile hike from the boat anchorage to the Stuart Point Lighthouse and back.

We take a rest at the point where the light facility is automated today. Back twenty yards or so,

the two story lightkeepers' home had beautiful but lonely views of the surounding islands.
